Item Details
Description
Southeast Asia, Cambodia, Khmer, ca. 10th to 13th century CE. A fine trio of bronze buckles, each of annular form with a convex center and a band of openwork triangles on the periphery adorned with relief spiraling and braided designs. Enveloped in a beautiful green patina, each buckle features thick straps on the verso to be worn on a belt or as another ornament. The wheel-like form of these may be associated with the dharmachakra or wheel of dharma: a widespread symbol used in Buddhism that represents Buddha's teaching and universal moral order. Size (all about the same): 3.5" Diameter x 1" W (8.9 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
