A 1986 Gibson SG Standard solid body electric guitar, serial #81016543, cherry finish. Owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist.

Gifted to Randy by Gibson for the 1986 Van Halen 5150 tour (the band’s first with new singer Sammy Hagar) which had Bachman-Turner Overdrive as the supporting act. Hagar needed a band to open with 30 minutes of hits in quick succession with a five-minute changeover to stop fans from yelling, “Where’s Dave?” and BTO was the perfect choice.

This is a very special Gibson SG that dates to an exciting, meaningful time in Randy’s career. It was personally modified by Eddie Van Halen himself for Randy, which included removing the pickup covers and dipping them in Ski Wax to prevent microphonic squeal at high volume. Under inspection, it’s obvious that the wax job was a home-spun modification.

A 24 3/4” scale length mahogany neck with a bound 22 fret rosewood fretboard with trapezoid inlays. Six double line/single ring reissue tuners. A cherry-finished mahogany body with two humbucker pickups, three way toggle switch, and volume and tone controls for each pickup. The guitar has a chrome Gibson-branded Kahler vibrato, possibly factory. Currently the locking nut is not present, leaving behind six holes on the headstock as well as a cut-down truss rod cover, necessary to accommodate such hardware.
