Item Details
Description
A late 1980’s Gibson Flying V bass guitar, serial #NS002, in satin black finish. Owned and stage played by Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue during the peak of the band’s popularity. It includes a framed, signed COA from 2014 wherein Sixx affirms his use and ownership of the bass, three photographs of Sixx playing the bass in-concert, and a plaque describing Sixx’s history with the bass. Sixx has also signed the bass “Nikki Sixx #002 Motley Crue” in silver paint pen.
Made by Gibson for Sixx, the company gave the bass a special serial number of “NS002,” the “NS” standing for Nikki Sixx. The exact year of production cannot be accurately dated by the serial number.
The bass is finished in satin black, which is heavily worn from play and has polished to a dull shine in areas where Sixx’s skin and clothing have come into contact with the finish. Mahogany body, 32” scale length mahogany neck, 21 frets on an ebony fretboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. The bass uses two high-output pickups wired in parallel and connected to a single two-way on/off switch; there are no other controls present. Black grover tuners and a Schaller bridge in black finish.
The bass was re-discovered by Sixx in 2013 while looking through Motley Crüe storage. He posted on Instagram about it immediately.
Includes a black Epiphone case with grey interior, COA, three photographs, and plaque.
