A Songye Mask, Kifwebe Democratic Republic of Congo, c. 20th century Representing male characteristics, with a tall crest. Of typical zoomorphic form with protruding rectilinear mouth, arching eyes, and the tall crest descending to nose bridge. Carved and painted in angular sections, alternating colors of black, white, and rust red. Perforated all around perimeter for attachment of costume. In very good condition, minor scrapes and nicks, one stable hairline crack on lower left.
