East Asia, Japan, late Edo Period, ca. early to mid-19th century CE. A wooden battle signal known as a gunbai with a convex triangular design that enabled it to be seen clearly from all angles. The 3 sides each depict a broad cherry blossom, and each surface of the upper element is covered in a layer of 26.9% gold foil. Size: 9.75" L x 11.125" W x 22" H (24.8 cm x 28.3 cm x 55.9 cm); gold quality: 26.9
