Lot of Post Cards of Stafford on Avon - England
All with illustrations of William Wells Quatremain (22 December 1857 ? 3 March 1930) who was an English artist who painted many oil and watercolour landscapes of Britain, many of which were also published as postcards. Quatremain produced a number of scenes from Warwickshire ? like "The Ford, Kenilworth" and "Warwick Castle from the Avon" ? and specifically from Stratford-upon-Avon, including "Shakespeare's Birthplace" and "Ann Hathaway's Cottage."
Quatermaine was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1881 to 1929, and his work was also shown at the Paris Salon and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and the Society of Painters in Tempera
Quatermaine's paintings are characterized by their delicate brushwork and attention to detail. He often used a muted palette, which helped to create a sense of atmosphere in his work. His paintings are held in public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
