Good auction house but should pay more attention to their shipping partners
I was happy with Elder's up until the time I had to arrange shipping of my painting to PA. Elder's provides a list of shipping companies with no guidance who to use. So I tried Orbit, a company on their list. For Collecting, packing and shipping the painting they quote $498. (The painting hammer price was $300). This company was quite rude and unhelpful so I tried Venice Mail & Print. The contrast could not have been greater. They quoted $160 and ended up invoicing me $149. I don't like to work with auction houses that wash their hands of me once they have received payment. A little help and advice helping buyers to be united with their items is important to me and maybe others. So my advice would be to know that Elder's will not recommend a shipper so buyers need to shop around and not accept the first quote offered. It could be a costly mistake.

We're sorry about the experience with Orbit, and disappointed that did not reach out to us. We're always available to work with our customers, whether advising on an ideal shipper or making special arrangements, and would have gladly helped had we been contacted.

Items were as described-and shipping charges were fair enough
I won three items and since I live several hundred miles away-I needed them to be shipped. I think the $67 charged for the three items was fair enough-maybe shipping was $30, packing another $20 charged, and the rest profit. In other words, I thought this was fair!

I was charged outrageous shipping fees and one item arrived broken. I have contacted Elder and they do not respond.

Damage (chips, scratches) was much more extensive than indicated by photos or descriptions. I shipped to a highly regarded Lalique restorer. The good news is that all three items are repairable. All three have considerably more damage than reported by Elders. Restorer's notes: Bacchantes Nudes Vase. Several top chips on the top and in the bevel. Several scratches also. So, I'll re-cut and blend and polish out the damage. The nudes are pretty beat up. There are multiple chips and crush marks and 2 bulls eyes on 7 of the figures. There are a total of 13 different areas of damage. It think everything will turn out fine. There is one nude with a chip on the nose. This may be the only thing noticeable. But you'd really have to know your Lalique glass to see the repair. The bottom bevel needs re-cutting as there are several chips. this repair will not effect the signature on the side. It is faint, but won't be touched. Even during the frosting process of the nudes. The bottom is badly scratched. I'll re-cut the bottom surface to remove the deep scratches and then re-polish the entire bottom. For the repair of the entire vase is going to run about 8-9 hours. (he charges $75 per hour) Deux PoissonsTwo Fish Sculpture Two fin chips along the top surface along with one going down the side of the fin. These areas of damage can be re-cut and feathered out. Then re-frost and polish. Polish the bottom and re-cut the bevel on the bottom. 4 hours for the repair. R Lalique Lierre Vase-The top has 4 spots that are rough. The bottom ring that the vase has the R. Lalique signature. There is a ton of wear. I could take a little off, but it may remove some of the signature. $64 repairs for this vase. With online bidding having become so prevalent, Auction houses need to do a much much better job with photography and condition descriptions in their listings. Everything was OK with Elders perhaps more infor on the description will be better but I understand the spaces are limited, nevertheless it is easy to contact them if we need it.
