We're sorry for any confusion. Shipping is never included in the invoice, but is always billed from the shipping department because not everyone has their items shipped and the shipping department doesn't know the cost until they pack it, weigh it, calculate insurance, and choose a carrier. We do appreciate your comments regarding using too much tape, and will look into ways to reduce how much we use without compromising the safety of the items we ship.

Need to modernize payment process
The item I purchased was just fine, but the payment process is unbelievably clunky-who requires personal checks in the mail any more?-and the shipping costs were quite high.

Misrepresented Item & Verging on Fraudulent Payment/Refund Policy
Purchased a bracelet from Pook & Pook that they catalogued as 18k, tested as 14k, and was denied a refund. They refused to provide me a refund because they had already paid their consignor and blamed me for a late payment-totally mischaracterized. The day I received the invoice I called to pay with a debit card, which is when they told me I would need to pay using a physical check because I was a first time buyer. I Called back in about a week or so later to inform them I was dropping the check in the mail. I received word they had received my check, but that there would be a hold until it cleared unless I could provide proof of funds clearing my account. I sent a screenshot of my account showing the funds being released, and everything seemed to be going smoothly. The shippers picked the piece up and I received it a week or so after that. The day after I received it I contacted them to inform them of the discrepancy, which is when I was informed that they would not refund me as I took too long to pay and that the funds had been released to their consignor. This policy is extremely flawed-just because funds had been released to their consignor doesn’t mean responsibility for the authenticity of the piece is done, especially when one of the reasons for refusing the refund is the time/method of payment-one they requested. To be fair, they did offer to delist the piece for me, but this would not make up the difference in price due to their discrepancy of it being bought as 18k and now having to be offered as 14k, minus time, effort, and shipping expenses. The woman who responded to my request was rude and condescending, she had already made up her mind and had little in way of open communication or empathy-did not take ANY responsibility over their role in this.

We are terribly sorry this buyer is unhappy with his purchase. Unfortunately, he paid very late, paid with a personal check (which requires a ten day hold if the buyer doesn't provide documentation showing the funds have cleared their account), delayed setting up shipping, didn't report the issue to us until after we had paid the consignor, and was unable to provide documentation from the experts he took the piece to stating that we had described it incorrectly. We did offer to resell the item for the buyer at 0 %.

Complicated shipping process
After your payment is received with this company you have to call around and make arrangements for shipping companies to check in with the auctioneers. They call and get the weight and size to call you back with a quote. Then you say yes and the shipping process starts. Very slow. It’s been 2 weeks and the lot still hasn’t shipped. The customer service people are friendly and try to accommodate you best as possible but it’s just slow

Inaccurate description photos did not show damage. Damage possibly done by shipper
The painting was not as described: there is a hole in the canvas not mentioned and not seen in the photos, and the fame has a lot of abrasions and missing gilt finish not pictured in auction house photos. The damage may have been done by the shipper, but the auction house had this shipper on their recommended list.

Unprofessional
For someone who's been in the trade for 24 + years and worked with dozens of local and international auction houses, I've never been asked to provide identifications along with reference letters from other auction houses.

While we understand your frustration with our registration requirements, we do this to protect the auction house from non-paying overseas clients. These requirements are only in place for first time buyers. Once you are an established purchaser with Pook & Pook, we remove the additional registration requirements.
