Labor Day Antiques Auction

Exceptional offering for the Labor Day event, with items being sold on behalf of the Joseph Blackburn Wise Trust, including items passed down from Joseph Clay Stiles Blackburn, a Representative and U.S. Senator from Woodford County, KY. Joseph C. S. Blackburn was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Confederate Army, and was appointed Governor of the Canal Zone, Isthmus of Panama, by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907, where he served for 2 years. Alaska's Mt. Blackburn, the tallest peak in the Wrangell Mountains and the fifth highest peak in the United States, was named after Senator Blackburn by Lieutenant Henry Allen. Also included in the auction is a collection of Victorian gold and silver jewelry, including a fantastic grouping of items owned by Senator Blackburn's daughter Lucilla B. Lane, with many of the items having once been owned by the French actress Mlle. Rhea, including a pearl necklace reported to have been a gift from Czar Nicholas the Second, Emperor of Russia. With choice additions and other collections.
