Ethnographic Jewellry Sale / 143 unique antique Artworks
Jewelery has always accompanied and fascinated the people of all cultures in various forms and materials.
From the cultural point of view, arm and footwear, amulets and colliers are much more than just jewelery. In large parts of Africa, the precious objects are appreciated not only for their beauty, but also as magical, protective and energizing objects, which were also used as precoinage currency.
Thus, the ornaments are part of religious beliefs and symbolize rank and belonging to the bearers. In some ethnic groups, fortune-tellers prescribe the wearing of protective jewelery that keeps away the evil spirits.
Native materials such as Ivory, silver or gold where used for the production of the valuable one-offs. Popular imported goods were also used gladly. Indian stone beads had reached Africa very early on the trade routes of the Middle East. Later, during the heyday of Murano between the 16th and 19th centuries, mainly glass beads of Italian manufacture found tearing sales.
