Folio. 61 collotype, photolithographic and lithographic plates. Contemporary half morocco and printed boards. Spine ends chipped, slight chipping to some edges of boards, marginal browning.
Provenance: Clements R. Markham (1830-1916, President of the Royal Geographic Society, bookplate and inscription).
WITH: Autograph Letter Signed ("G. Nordenskiold") to an unknown recipient, in English, 8vo, 3 pp, Stockholm, April 22, 1894, explaining that he had no further copies of his book to send out, but that they could be bought from the publisher.
FIRST EDITION, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED to the President of the Royal Geographic Society, Clements Markham. Documenting archeological and anthropoloical studies of the cliff dwellings of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah, with an emphasis on pottery and other artifacts. The American issue contained more plates than the Swedish edition. Howes N174.
