Description
Very rare Civil War era full plate thermoplastic union case or decorative plaque featuring Emanuel Leutze's "Washington Crossing the Delaware" along the front and the reverse. The case appears to be made out of gutta-percha. The case houses a daguerreotype of Mrs. George Sheppard and her ten children, accompanied by a handwritten note in ink on paper listing each of the children. Keywords: Ambrotype. Unframed; height: 7 1/4 in x width: 9 1/8 in. Framed; height: 9 1/2 in x width: 11 1/2 in.
