Description
A display featuring two probably battle-used Civil War relics: a remnant from a 34-star American flag; and a brass infantry horn insignia salvaged from a Union kepi. The relics are displayed in a mat measuring 11" x 14" x .5" overall. Expected light wear, else near fine. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity embossed with the seal of The Historical Shop (Metairie, Louisiana.)
The oblong flag remnant is displayed beneath the horn insignia, both pieces mounted and affixed within a shallow cavity in the center of the mat. The mat opening measures 3.75" x 2.625." The relics are flanked by a high-quality photo reproduction depicting the Battle of Gettysburg at top, and a nice description of internal Union Army organization at bottom.
Provenance:
The items come with a Certificate of Authenticity issued by The Historical Shop, stating in part: "The flag remnants contained in this display originated from a 34-star U.S. flag used during the Civil War. This particular flag was a 'barracks flag' which was a large flag that flew over a camp or a building…The brass infantry insignia is an authentic Civil War hat piece that was worn on the kepi of a Federal infantry soldier…" Both pieces were found in "an old horde" of Civil War artifacts in Philadelphia.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
