1899 Frederick Douglass Monument Unveiling New York
June 9, 1899-Dated, Rare FREDERICK DOUGLASS Monument Committee Printed Card from the Unveiling of the Frederick Douglass Monument, Rochester, NY., Crisp Extremely Fine.
This 4" x 9.25" Printed Card has an image of Douglass at top center, with text below which reads; "FREDERICK DOUGLASS / Born: / February 14, 1817, at Tuckahoe, Maryland / Died: / February 20, 1895, at Washington, D.C. / Buried: / February 26, 1895, at Rochester, N.Y. / Monument / Douglass Park / Central Avenue and North Saint Paul Street / Rochester, New York / Corner-stone Laid, July 20, 1898 / Unveiled, June 9, 1899". Below lists the members of the Monument Committee. On back is a large image of the monument and a quote from Douglass, "Men do not live by bread alone; so with nations, they are not saved by art, but by honesty; not by the gilded splendors of wealth, but by the hidden treasure of manly virtue; not by the multitudinous gratifications of the flesh, but by the celestial guidance of the spirit." Overall, clean and pleasing. Rare.
