Portrait of Emily Drayton Taylor, life-sized waist length, depicting a woman in black, with a white scarf, black broad brimmed hat having feathers (circa 1905), her left hand on her belt clutch, her right hand on a long silver eyeglass chain, with frame tag naming subject and artist and giving her birth date as April 14th, 1860, housed in a gold deep cover frame with gesso edge, OS: 53 1/2" x 33 1/2", SS: 47 1/2" x 27 1/2". Good condition.Emily Drayton Taylor (Mrs. J. Madison Taylor) 1860 - 1952 was a miniature painter from Philadelphia. Awarded gold medal, Earl’s Court, London, 1900, Charleston Exposition, 1902; silver medal, San Francisco Exposition, 1915; medal, Miniature Society of Pennsylvania; Medal of Honor, 1919; Charles M. Lea money prize. Academy Fine Arts, miniature exhibition, 1920. Painted portrait of Cardinal Mercier, 1924, and awarded special money prize by Pennsylvania Academy Fine Arts for same.
