[CIVIL WAR]. Painted metal box with key identified to 9th Regiment, New York National Guard. N.p., n.d.  

15 1/8 x 6 5/8 x 10 5/8 in. painted metal box with swiveling handle and key (scratches).

The 9th Regiment, New York National Guard, was originally reorganized from earlier units on 29 May 1850, known as the "Irish Ninth" and disbanded on 3 May 1858, but again reformed on 25 June 1859. During the Civil War, they served as the 83rd NY Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864). They also later served in the Spanish-American War as the 9th N.Y. Volunteer Infantry in May-November 1898.

[With:] 1851 wheat penny (raised surfaces very worn, parts of legend unreadable). -- 1868 shield nickel (soiling and discoloration in places, with lighter wear to raised surfaces). -- 1863 G.S. Rowell & Son, Produce Dealers, store token. Kendallville, IN (soiling and darkening to edges/ridges, partial store name legend worn down to surface).
