Description
1777 Rocher History of EGYPT Pharaoh Khufu Bible MOSES Crossing Red Sea MAP 2v
Pierre GueÌrin du Rocher was an 18th-century French Jesuit controversialist who is primarily remembered for his work The Story of Fabulous Times. This work was Rochers defense of the Egyptian Empire, focusing on the time of Pharaoh Menes through the rise of the Persian Empire. The controversy arose from Rochers claims that Biblical history of Egypt was the only accurate source of information and that Egyptian mythology was rooted in Biblical narrative, seemingly disproving the authoritative works of Herodotus.
These volumes from the 1777 Paris edition covers the period of Egyptian history from King Sesostris and Pharaoh Khufu (or Cheops, ca. 2580 BC) through Moses and the Israelites in Egypt. This lot contains the highly coveted folding map of the route taken by the Israelites through the Red Sea.
