Description
1967 JRR TOLKIEN Children of Húrin Lord of the Rings Middle Earth 5 Book Lot
"All have their worth and each contributes to the worth of others.”
– J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion
A book lot for the Tolkien enthusiast! Perhaps the best known, modern epic is none other than J.R.R. Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings; a work that has become one of the most popular works of fantasy literature ever written. The success of Tolkiens fantasy world involving hobbits, dragons, monsters, and battles begins with the story of The Silmarillion. This 1977 first American edition is an extremely popular title and highly coveted by literary collectors and LOTR enthusiasts alike. It also features its original dust jacket – an impressive find!
Also included in this book lot are three of Tolkiens lesser-known works, Smith of Wootton Major, The Children of Húrin, and The Road Goes Ever On. Wootten Major and Children of Húrin are both pristine, first American editions and beautifully illustrated (The Children of Húrin in color). In addition, Tolkien published a set of songs whose texts are set from Middle-Earth writings. Each of the songs from The Road Goes Ever On includes music written by Donald Swann and features Elvish texts as well.
Lastly, this lot contains a biography of Tolkien by Professor Tom Shippey, considered one of the worlds leading academic experts on the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien. This work offers an accessible discussion of some of Tolkiens most important stories, and the themes and beliefs that present themselves in his tales.
