Colonel Jacob (1832-1894) lost a leg in Sebastopol and was decorated by the Queen of England. Despite his injury, he rejoined the military in 1870 in order to train young recruits. He was appointed by General Faidherbe as military commenader of Douai. In addition Jacob was an officer of the Legion of Honor, a Freemason and a free-thinker: he died in 1894 in Nice, where he was buried in the Jewish cemetery.

Dinah Miriam JACOB was the mother of Jean Lippmann is one of the great figures of the Resistance in Provence, captured and executed in Nice by the Nazi.
