The Andrews Sisters was a swing musical group consisting of sisters LaVerne Sophia (contralto), Maxene Anglyn (soprano), and Patricia "Patty" Marie (mezzo-soprano). The group rose to popularity just prior to the Second World War and is very much still associated with war times. Their 1941 song "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" was a hit and throughout the war, they entertained the Allied Forces in Africa, Italy, and the U.S. The Andrews Sisters were also used to encourage the purchase of war bonds. They continued performing after the war but formally broke up the group in 1953.
