Description
An iconic shot, this ninth plate tintype depicts a jaunty Union soldier holding a pair of revolvers crossed across his chest. In addition to the firearms, the soldier smokes an effigy pipe that may be a carving of a soldier. He wears his forage cap at an angle and gives off a decidedly rakish vibe. While the soldier’s identity is unknown, verbal provenance suggests the image was discovered in Wisconsin. The plate has been hand-colored red and blue. An impressive portrait of a real character.
