Qualche leggera fioritura e traccia d'uso, in complesso ottimo stato di conservazione, esemplare in elegante legatura d'epoca.Bella edizione, probabilmente con falso luogo di stampa, di questa opera enciclopedica per la quale l'autore fu condannato all'esilio e il libro condannato al rogo per ateismo e sedizione. La sentenza non fu eseguita per il forte sostegno popolare sostenuto da Voltaire e dai Philosophes. Il Parlamento dovette annullare la sentenza e assicurò così all'opera una notorietà eccezionale. Considerato un pastiche di Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu e Diderot, questo monumentale libro, di piacevole lettura, affronta un'enorme quantità di domini, spaziando dalla storia della filosofia, all'Inquisizione, le passioni, la storia naturale dell'uomo, l'origine dei popoli e delle razze, con curiose dissertazioni sui mostri e sui giganti. L'ultima parte dell'opera è dedicata alla religione: la critica illuminista che si esprime in queste pagine determinò la condanna dell'autore e del libro.

Beautiful edition, probably with a false place of printing, of this encyclopedic work for which the author was sentenced to exile and the book condemned to the stake for atheism and sedition. The sentence was not carried out for the strong popular support supported by Voltaire and the Philosophes. Parliament had to quash the sentence and thus ensured exceptional fame at work. Considered a pastiche of Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu and Diderot, this monumental book, pleasant to read, addresses a huge amount of domains, ranging from the history of philosophy, to the Inquisition, passions, the natural history of man, the origin of peoples and races, with curious dissertations on monsters and giants. The last part of the work is dedicated to religion: the Enlightenment criticism expressed in these pages determined the condemnation of the author and the book.
