Oberlé Fastes 112 (second edition of 1747)], Amsterdam [i.e Paris], no printer, 1740 bound after [Marin (François)] Les Dons de Comus, ou les délices de la table, first edition, engraved frontispiece 'Les attributs de la Bonne-Chere' by Le Bas, title in red and black and with small vase ornament, frontispiece trimmed just within border at outer margin, Z4 piece torn from outer margin, with loss of 2 letters, but no loss of sense of text, some spotting or staining, lightly browned, [Bitting pp.307-308; Cagle 301; Livres de bouche 198; Oberlé Fastes 108; Simon BG 1001; Vicaire 284-285], Paris, Prault, fils, Quay de Conty, 1739, together 2 works in 1 vol., contemporary calf, gilt spine in compartments and with chipped leather label, remains of gilt arms to compartment at foot, spine ends and corners restored, rubbed and scuffed, large 12mo

⁂ I: Louis-Auguste, to whom the work is dedicated (probably to throw people off the scent of the identity of the author), was a hunting companion of Louis XV, and often presided over the royal 'petits soupers', earning himself praise as a skilled amateur cook. 'The names given to the recipes indicate that the writer gave free scope to his imagination' (Bitting). II: Marin was Maître d'Hôtel to Charles de Rohan, Prince of Soubise.
