Description
This is a most charming image created c1910 by Marcellin Auzolle (1862 - 1942) for the Champagne Masse et Fils label of wine. The poster is painted in rich, deep tones of brown which dramatically contrast with the bright yellow outfit of the classically dressed Frenchman. Clearly a man of revelry, he has ducked down into the cave (cellar) to grab another bottle of the delicious Champagne Masse. His lantern illuminates the cellar, making it easy for him to select "Le Bonne Bouteille", or "The Right Bottle". We do not know much about the artist, Auzolle, but his limited body of work is very attractive and collected.Domaine Masse was founded in the late 1800s, when Champagne first rose to prominence with the general public. Claude Masse purchased his estate with vines from the 15th Century and quickly rose to prominence. Domaine Masse still produces wines today, but they appear to have divested their vineyard in Reims and are now known for their white and red Burgundy wines. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
