This La Francaise Diamant poster advertising the French brand features a cyclist with the number 9 draped around their neck. This both references the text on the upper portion on the poster which reads "9 Fois Champion de France" (9-time champion of France) as well as a common practice of professional cyclists who would sometimes wear an innertube around their neck. La Francaise Diamant was a French brand of racing bikes, velocipedes, mopeds and motorcycles well known its sponsorship with the professional cycling team La Francaise. La Francaise took park in several Tours de France, with members Maurice Garin and Leon Scieur winning the 1903 and 1921 Tour De France races. In 1923, the brand was bought over by Alcyon. Abel Faivre, or Jules-Abel Faivre (1867-1945) was a French painter, illustrator and cartoonist. He attended Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts, Academie Julian and was a member of the Societe des Artistes Francais. Faivre was well known for his French Propaganda posters in World War I and his illustrations in publications such as Le Rire, L'echo de Paris, and Le Figaro.
