Description
Hasegawa (Takejiro).- Chamberlain (Basil Hall) Aino Fairy Tales No. 1. The Hunter in Fairy-Land, colour woodblock illustrations by Sensei Eikatu, 1 tissue leaf of preface, bound and stitched Japanese-style, original pictorial wrappers, some chipping and insect damage to upper cover, [Sharf p. 67], 8vo, Tokyo, Kobunsha and Boston, Ticknor, 1887.
⁂ Rare. The first of three titles in the Aino Fairy Tale Series, intended as a supplement to the Japanese Fairy Tale Series, focussed on the myths of the northern Ainu people. Though there was a good amount of Western interest in the Ainu at this time, the series did not sell well and was discontinued.
