Description
A group comprising six early black and white stipple etched portraits on thick paper of the pugilists Josh Hudson, Richard Humphries, E. Baldwin, Langan the Irishman, Tom Johnson and Jack Ford. Taken from "The Fancy; or True Sportsman's Guide" by John Bee (John Babcock), published by John McGowan, 6th Windmill St. London, 1826. About 5" x 8" inches, each.
Condition; prints show normal signs of expected age wear, including toning, some light foxing and staining, some with a few small holes and tears, cut edges, mild wrinkling, one with folded crease to bottom left corner, one with torn (missing) bottom corners, etc. Prints are loosely attached to a single mat board via use of separate small folded papers adhered to reverse of top corners and may be easily cut from the board without alter to the prints.
