Description
Virginia Mining District, Nevada (printed under title). Inc. June 5th, 1872. No. 38, issued for 100 shares to E. Fisher on Jan. 22nd, 1875 in San Francisco. Signed by president R. Bunker and secretary M. Landers. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Two vignettes: allegorical woman with phoenix (left) and small vignette of two birds (bottom). Lith. G. T. Brown & Co., SF (noted African-American lithographer). The Beach & Paxton was next to the Con Virginia on the west. It made appearances in regional newspapers in 1864, 1872, and 1875, but never showed success. Although the Annual Mining Review and Stock Ledger [1876, pg. 38] called it very promising. Notes on Grafton T. Brown and examples of his work are included. Also notes on the Beach & Paxton.Date: 1872Country (if not USA): State: NevadaCity: Virginia, StoreyProvenance: Joe Elcano Nevada Mining Stock Collection
