Description
1961 Topps #388 Roberto "Bob" Clemente MLB Baseball Card. This is technically his 7th year card with Topps (1955 is the rookie). One of baseballs true immortals, no one exemplified the way the game should be played more than Roberto Clemente. A 15 time all-star, 12 time gold glove, 4 time batting champion, 2 time world series champion, NL MVP (1966) & World Series MVP (1971) the accolades speak for themselves. On December 31, 1972, he died in a plane crash at the age of 38 while en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. The following season, the Pirates retired his uniform (#21), and the MLB renamed its Commissioner's Award in his honor. Now known as the Roberto Clemente Award, it is given to the player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team." The card itself is just beautiful (see images) very sharp corners, almost perfectly centered, excellent image quality you can't do much better than this. Don't miss out!
