Description
Very fine high relief stone temple fragment from an inset wall panel of a Chinese temple. The rooster is a zodiac symbol for those active and outspoken, loyal and honest. This example appears to who a scholar's stone in the foreground and a Ming temple in the background in relief. The temple in traditional Ming style and detailing to the windows and garden surrounding the rooster. The piece is quite heavy and a very strong stone. There are points where the piece was held into a wall with old spikes or iron clamps and the rust from the old iron has lightly stained the stone, a strong indication of the piece's age and time it had rested inset. Ming Dynasty 1368-1644 C.E. Provenance: Los Angeles Collection 2018, Pasadena Collection 2017, A Los Angeles Estate Prior Measures 13.75" W x 15.25" H x 4" D (Includes a custom steel stand with rubber feat that places the object at 22" H on stand)
