Description
Lot consists of: (A) Circa late 18th-early 19th century English style hunting sword that features a 26" single edged blade with a single, unstopped fuller. Blade is marked with Running Wolf of Passau beneath the fuller. Brass hilt with shell languet, teardrop quillon, and D-shaped knucklebow with brass ferrules and pommel. Stag grip marked with carved "VIII". CONDITION: Blade exhibits a gray patina with scattered pitting and freckling. Hilt exhibits a pleasing patina with evident handling wear. (B) Circa late 18th-early 19th century English style hunting sword that features a 23" blade with single edge, no fuller, and no ricasso. Blade is marked with a fleur de lis on either side, which is associated with quality steel. Brass hilt with shell languet, teardrop quillon, and D-shaped knucklebow with brass ferrules and pommel. Stag grip. CONDITION: Blade exhibits a heavy patina with partial proof mark on obverse side. Hilt exhibits a dark patina and produces a wobble when handled. Grip with handling wear. (C) English style hunting sword that features a 18 - 7/8" blade that features a spear point and double edge. The blade is marked with a Running Wolf of Passau toward the center, followed by an "orb and crosses" motif which resembles proofs used in the 16th century. ornately cast brass hilt that features elegant hunting scenes on the shell guard and grip, which compliment the lion head pommel. Equally ornate crossguard that terminates with a lion head quillon. CONDITION: Blade exhibits a gray patina with edge wear and scattered freckling. Hilt exhibits a nice patina with crisp detail and produces a wobble when handled.
