16" by 22" framed. Allard Auction Collection Inv: NIED Oswald Fredericks White Bear (Born 1906) was active/lived in Arizona. Oswald White Bear is known for Native ceremonial-dance figures. Born at Oraibi, Arizona with the Hopi Indian name of "Kucha Honawah" in Old Oraibi, Arizona, and known as White Bear, Oswald Fredericks was an illustrator, muralist, and noted carver of Kachina figures. He was educated at the Indian School in Phoenix and at Bacone College. In New Jersey, he was an art teacher at a YMCA (location not given) for fifteen years, and he also painted a mural there. In Phoenix, he was an Arts and Crafts Instructor at the Boys Club and also taught dancing and interpretive music for the Fred Waring Workshops. His illustrations of Hopi rain dancing were in "Arizona Highways" magazine, July, 1959, and in "Arizona Republic" newspapers.
