A significantly rare printing of George Canning Hills 19th-century biographical work, Capt. John Smith.
Captain John Smith is best known for his role in establishing the Virginia colony at Jamestown, Englands first permanent colony in North America. At Jamestown, Smith served on the local council; explored and mapped the Chesapeake Bay; established working relationships with the native Powhatan, the paramount chief of Tsenacommacah; and was president of the colony from September 1609-1610. However, due to unpopularity with other colonists he was forced to return to England in October 1610.
