Original 1940s midget auto racing poster concept art by well known automotive concept artist John Orfe. This is an original midget racing pencil sketch signed by John Orfe and dated 1944. This sketch was later used in 1940s and 1950s midget /auto racing posters. This original sketch appears to be in overall good condition with discoloration and wear from age and display. Overall it measures approximately 17" across by 14" tall. Here is a brief history of John Orfe fromIndianapolis Motor Speedway Museum "Orfe was born in Philadelphia and began a life-long love affair with motor racing in 1932 upon seeing his first race at the renowned Langhorne (Pa.) Speedway. After attending the Philadelphia Museum School ofIndustrial Art and serving in World War II, Orfe established a reputation in the field of commercial art, specializing in automotive and aircraft design for Ford, Chrysler, Volkswagen, and Boeing. Nationally known auto racingmagazines, such as Open Wheel, Circle Track, and Speed Age, featured Orfe’s memorable auto racing paintings as centerfolds and on their covers."
