Description
Bruce A. Niemi (American, 20th-21st century), Tall Modernist Steel and Slate Sculpture
1997, from the artist's "Energy" series, fabricated brushed steel and slate center, signed and dated near center.
93 3/4 x 20.5 x 13 in.
Bruce A. Niemi learned how to weld at his father's studio in 1968, beginning at the age of 12. He received a BFA in Sculpture from Northern Illinois University in 1981, and has been welding and creating sculptures for 53 years, and currently at work full time at his studio in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Bruce has at least 55 permanent public sculptures across the United States and Europe. The artists process is direct: "My work evolves as I create it, at times when I am creating, the piece starts speaking to me in a different way than I had originally planned and I end up changing it in the process and arrive with a totally different finished sculpture. Stainless steel and silicon bronze are my primary materials of choice and I do all of my own fabrication and love the process from start to finish."
