Description
Lot of six brass Virginia Military Institute buttons from the Civil War era. These attractive, two-piece buttons bear the famous state seal of Virginia with the motto “Sic Semper Tyrannis,” along with “V.M.I.” and “Cadet.” All buttons are in excellent condition, with a similar mellow patina. All bear the back mark “D. Evans & Co., Attleboro”
VMI counted about 1,800 soldiers amongst their alumni and students during the Civil War, including several young cadets who fought and died at the Battle of New Market in 1864. VMI remains one of the finest military schools in the United States to this day. This is a very nice lot of buttons that are getting harder to acquire.
