American Horseman's Saber,
late 18th century.
Iron hilt with slotted counter-guard and tapering knuckle bow joining a flat pommel with backstrap black leather covered grip with twisted brass wire wrapping; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and single narrow fuller on each side.
Blade lg. 34 3/4, overall lg. 40 1/8 in.

Condition
Iron hilt toned to dark brown and with scattered minor surface oxidation and light pitting, leather has a few small areas of surface loss, hilt is solid on the blade tang; blade has scattered gray toning and areas of minor to moderate pitting, blade edge has several shallow nicks, tip is slightly blunted.
