Description
George B. McClellan 1864 Handwritten Democratic Ballot
A Democratic ballot for the 1864 election, Miami County, Ohio, undated [1864]. A handwritten ballot ticket on lined paper, voting for George B. McClellan for President. 1p, 4.75" x 8". The ticket also has cast votes for George H. Pendleton for Vice President, along with several Congressional Electors and Electors at Large. The ballot had been folded into quarters and stuck through with a pin. The small pin holes are still visible. Rough left edge with slight uneven toning and faint foxing. Very good.
The 1864 Presidential election pitted Abraham Lincoln against his former commanding general, George B. McClellan. The Democratic McClellan supported the continuation of the war and the restoration of the Union, but was not in favor of abolishing slavery. Despite Lincoln's concerns about a possible defeat, he was victorious in his run for a second presidential term, beating McClellan by a wide margin of 212-21.
