First edition of Moore's account of the life of the Irish rebel, Edward Fitzgerald, with numerous selections from his personal correspondence. Prior to his involvement with the United Irishmen, Fitzgerald had a distinguished military career which included postings in America, the West Indies, and Canada. Included here are letters relating his experiences in the American Revolutionary War (I pp. 16-28), his posting in New Brunswick (I pp. 75-120), and his journeys from Fredericton to Quebec and down the Mississippi in New Orleans (I pp. 120-159).
