Typed letter on Police Department of the City of New York letterhead signed by Detective Inspector William W. McLaughlin to Mr. J. A. Bensel, Commissioner of Docks & Ferries, New York City. The text of the letter is, "Sir: I respectfully make application to have you assign a Diver and apparatus to the foot of East 32nd Street, North River, to assis the officers of the Police Department in dredging the river at that point, for the purpose of recovering a satchel containing a human head, the body being found in the immediate vicinity. Aram Trashjian, of 426 Eleventh Avenue, stated that on last Saturday night he murdered his brother and threw the head into the river at that point. If you can assist me in this matter, I will be greatly obliged to you." Verso with note in pencil, "B. O. issued and Police Dept so notified." Stamped with number 69466 and with additional number 14925. Folded in thirds.
