HERMAN W. KITCHEN (AMERICAN, D. 2003) "BIRDS OF FREEDOM", "BIRDS OF SEVEN CONTINENTS" AND OTHER FILM ARCHIVES
Collection comprises hundreds of slides and photograph negatives, approximately 32 boxed reels and 25 unboxed reels of varying lengths.
Of notable interest, in addition to the two documentaries, is a reel titled, "Kathryn Sullivan- aboard the Knorr - mid-Atlantic 1976". Kathryn Sullivan is the first American woman to walk in space. At the time of this film she was working on her Ph.D. She began her career with NASA in 1977.
Other titles include, "Al Capp Outtakes"; "Dinah Shore"; "Goodyear Girl in Aviation Story"; "Music by Bob Smith": "J. Fred Muggs"; "Inside NBC Outtakes"; Hermini Gingold"; African Writers"- Rubadiri"; "Kenyatta Music"; films about Tibet, and assorted reels.
Approximately nine (9) boxes of slides, transparencies and negatives, depicting African game, birds, natural history and travel.
Herman W. Kitchen was an award winning wildlife film maker and photographer. He is best known for his films, "Bird of Freedom", circa 1983 and "Birds of Seven Continents", circa 1987. His series, "Animal Secrets" aired on NBC from from 1966-1967. In addition, he was the former Vice President/Director of The Explorers Club NYC and President of the Adventurers Club, USA.
