1862 Civil War Dated Hand-Wrought Needlework Sampler
1862-Dated Civil War Period, Hand-Wrought Needlework Sampler, Signed "Adolphine Bochal" at bottom within the Design, with Custom Ornate Hand-carved Wooden Period Frame, Choice Extremely Fine.
This mid-19th Century Civil War period Embroidered Needlework Sampler is Dated "1862" twice on either side of her name by "Adolphine Bochal." These needlework samplers allowed young women to practice their craft, and have become highly collected for their social history and window to the past. This Sampler measures 11" x 13" (by sight), and is housed in an Ornate Period Decorative Wood Frame to an overall size of 16.5" x 19.5". White background cloth linen fabric and rich red thread are in excellent condition with two full alphabets displayed on the top, followed by a verse: "La perseverance vient a bout de tout." (Perseverance has come after all.). The decorative custom frame is beautifully crafted from wood and there are Hand-carved Leaf emblem decorations attached at each corner.
