Description
LANTERN. Merrell & Soule, Syracuse, New York. The four sided tin lantern decorated with moon and stars in the roof. The roof is released by two tin springs which would give access to a kerosene lantern that would be set within. (lamp is absent) The lantern has three original decorated glass panels featuring the Nonesuch Mince Meat pie lady, within her outstretched arms she is trimming the crust of a pie beneath is the mark "Trademark". The fourth side is original tin decorated with the same company logo. Note: Founded in 1868 by Messers, Merrell and Soule as a canning factory. In 1885, they began producing Nonesuch Mince Meat as a pie filling. This was continued until the present day, although the company itself was sold to Borden in 1928. SIZE: 17" h x 8" w x 8" d. CONDITION: top or roof of lantern is replaced. (05-105/JJ). $450-750.
