Description
Steuben engraved glass 3 prism sculpture, Bird Song, by Peter Aldridge & Jane Osborn-Smith, 1998. Engraved with seven feathered friends of Birdsong were chosen for their wonderful symbolism and happy imagery: the Japanese crane, symbol of long life; the dove, symbol of peace; the swallow, allegorical of rebirth; the lyrebird, known for its beauty of voice; the ibis, symbol of aspiration and perseverance; the hummingbird, revered for its jewel-like beauty; and the skylark, renowned for its melodious song. Gently turn the rotating cherry base, and the flock appears to fly and flutter, magically captured and then set free by Steuben's master copper-wheel engravers. Marked Steuben to the underside of one prism.
