As an artist, Julie Dobies has created elegant paintings, which evoke a quiet calm mood expressive of her philosophy as an interior designer: the home is our refuge from the outside world and it should be conducive to relaxation, without the over stimulation, which assaults us in the world at large. It was this sentiment, which lured Julie into a nine-year career with the home furnishing industry’s leading advocate of beautiful and comfortable styling free from fuss, Shabby Chic. Julie’s interest in oil on canvas became focused when she observed and experienced the difficulty of finding paintings, new or old, complementary to the look she and her clients were seeking. She observed that there was a niche to be filled, and awoke to the realization that this was an opportunity to follow her passion and to paint. Her work has been seen on Rachel Ashwell’s “Shabby Chic Style” on the E-network channel, and will be featured in “Country Living” Magazine this June.
