Naval Sextant: Henry Hughes & Son, in the Original Fitted Mahogany Case with John Fairfax Plaque
This sextant was made in the early 1940's by Kelvin Hughes of Great Britain. It was used to navigate the Atlantic Ocean when Mr. John Fairfax Succesfully crossed the Atlantic in his 12 Foot Row " The Britannia"
For a time, The Britannia amd this sextant were on display at the Miami Seaquarium

John Fairfax (21 May 1937 – 8 February 2012) was a British rower and adventurer who, in 1969, rowed across the Atlantic and became the first person to row solo across an ocean. He subsequently became the first to row in the Pacific Ocean (with Sylvia Cook) in 1971 and 1972.
