DESCRIPTION: Very important and fine Victorian gentleman's or armchair in the Rosalie with grapes pattern attributed to John Henry Belter (1804-1863 working in New York City) circa 1857-1860. Named the Rosalie pattern after Rosalie House in Natchez Mississippi, this is the most iconic of Belter's designs. The chair features his typical seven layered laminate back that was unique to his work along with the exuberantly carved crest and chair rails along with the side supports. Covered in yellow damask. MEASUREMENT: 25-1/2" wide x 21" deep x 43" high. CONDITION: Very good, consistent with age. MEG
