The scarce second issue of Robert De Vaugondy’s excellent 18th-century depiction of North and South America. The second issue is similar to the first but has more details of the Northwest Coast of North America. Louisiana is shown dominating North America, while in the oddly contoured northwest, a "Grande Riviere" flows from a salt lake west of the Rockies to the Pacific. Several Indian tribes shown in the western portion of the future United States. A table to the right of the map lists all American countries and territories and to whom they belong, as well as the major religions of the New World and where they are practiced. The delightful scrollwork and beautifully hand-colored floral cartouche are set in the midst of New World flora, with an Indian headdress and quiver at its base. The regions held by each European power are outlined in color on the map. Includes two insets: Isle de Martinique and Isle de S. Domingue, two highly profitable French colonies. OCLC shows only four individual copies of this map, at the University of Texas at Arlington, University of Michigan, Sächsiche Landesbibliothek in Germany, and Princeton.
