Description
Joseph Janny Steinmitz (1905-1985) Ringling Museum Courtyard, Sarasota Florida.Visitors to the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota carry a memory of the dark bronze sculptures in the Venetian-style museum's large central courtyard, with its colonnaded loggia surmounted by Italian limestone sculptures. The bronze sculptures are casts that John Ringling (1866-1936) ordered from the renowned Chiurazzi Foundry in Naples, Italy, in the late 1920s. Ringling viewed them as teaching tools that would bring classical and Roman statuary to artists and students without having to journey to Europe. He ordered them from catalogs that are still in the museum's library.Photo Mural by Mosby PhotoSize: 36 x 48 1/8 in. #5513
