Description
Early Musical Automaton Depicting a "Smoking Clown" This automaton clown has an incredible look as seen in the photos. Has brown glass eyes and composite head and hair wig. The face is nicely hand painted. Has wonderful clothing with ruffled lace. Includes ceramic hands holding a cigar and stick. One finger is broken off on the left hand. Mounted on a mechanical box covered in velvet cloth. Has original wind up key and internal mechanism. Winds up and plays the internal small musical cylinder with tines. The three movements are working, right hand goes up and down bringing the cigar up to the mouth while an internal bellow will blow smoke through the mouth. The left arm also moves up and down and the head turns from side to side. The bottom cover is marked "Restauration" Le 6.6.1982 and is stamped Michel Bertrano Switzerland. Includes a pull start switch on the side. Could use a cleaning as the mechanism does run then sticks. Condition is good with tattered clothing and wonderful look. This is an opportunity to acquire a rare piece of mechanical Automata history. 19.5" T x 8" W x 8.5" D
